Careers Information and resources

Both the main Careers and Job Search Centres (Leigh and Wigan) have extensive Careers libraries containing a wide range of information including the following:

Careers computer software

Interactive careers guidance packages are available including KUDOS 2000, CID and Pathfinder. These packages produce job suggestions based on responses to a series of questions related to aspects of work and/or personal interests and expected or attained qualifications. Most also provide job information which may be printed out.

Other careers software (e.g. Careerscape) provides information on occupations (entry requirements, skills and qualities etc.) whilst programmes such as ECCTIS provides information on approximately 80, 000 nationwide courses both vocational and academic in universities and HE and FE colleges.
EXODUS contains information on education, training and work opportunities in Europe and the rest of the world. Also contains advice on issues such as visas, entry requirements etc.

Reference books

A selection of reference books are available covering a wide range of topics including working abroad, career choice and change, job hunting, education opportunities as well as general career guides. Examples include : - the Working in…series, the Question and Answer series, Degree Course Offers, UCAS Big Book etc.

Prospectuses

Prospectuses are available for all local further education colleges, most North West FE colleges and specialised colleges e.g. agricultural colleges.
Prospectuses from every HE institution in the UK are also available.

Leaflets/booklets

A range of booklets/leaflets relating to either specific jobs or general career choice and advice is available, classified according to The Careers Library Classification index (CLCI.)
