Learning Gateway

What if you are not ready to choose what you want to do at 16+?

Many young people have very complicated lives and are trying to deal with a wide range of issues in their lives, not just which option to choose post 16.

The Learning Gateway, aims to help 16/17 year olds who need extra help and support in making the transition from school to work- based training or further education.

Young people will be allocated a Personal Adviser who will offer practical help in overcoming any barriers. These could be anything e.g. not having the right qualifications or skills, having problems with housing, needing to balance training with responsibilities at home.

With their Personal Adviser each young person will draw up an Individual Development Plan to help them plan for the future.

An individual programme of activities called 'Lifeskills' will also be available. Young people that attend these activities will be paid an allowance plus travelling expenses.

The Personal Adviser will continue to provide support to young people for as long as they need it- even if they start work, training or further education.
