Year 11: Application Advice

Curriculum Vitae

Writing your Curriculum Vitae

Today, almost all employers ask for a CV It is usually the first impression the employer will have of you so it is worth taking time over to make it as good as possible.

  • A CV is a general summary of information about yourself. It should be informative, easy to follow and understand, honest and professional looking.
  • Keep copies and send a new CV with each letter of application you submit. Don't fold your CV several times to fit info a small envelope - remember, you are trying to create a good impression and a crumpled document doesn't look professional.
  • Approach referees before including them in your CV
  • Update your CV frequently.
  • Once you have produced a clearly laid-out CV it will help you when filling in application forms, attending interviews and writing speculative letters.
  • If is usual when sending your CV to an employer to send a covering letter. This may be speculative or in response to a job advertisement.
