Year 11: Application Advice

Speculative Letter

Writing a speculative letter

Sometimes if you have a particular career or employer in mind, it can be worth sending a speculative letter on the off-chance that the company has a vacancy

Remember to keep a list for your own reference of jobs/courses you have applied for, the name of the contact, the date you applied and whether you sent your CV etc.

Example Speculative Letter

Your home address
Date
Dear Sir/Madam

I am looking for an opening in ...... (type of work or profession) and I am writing to enquire if your company has any vacancies that might be suitable.

I enclose a copy of my CV with this letter and I would be willing to undertake any training you might consider necessary.

I realise that you may not have any vacancies at this time but I should be grateful if you would keep my personal details on file in case any suitable vacancies arise in the future.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully
